Dr Robyn Thompson presents Your Body Your Baby. Video #3 in the 3 Golden Hours series. These are the 3 most important hours for a breastfeeding mother and her newborn baby.
In this video, Dr Robyn encourages women and professionals to be strong and protect the skin to skin after birth time, for at least 3 hours. This is called the 3 Golden Hours and is critical to the physiological stabilisation of the mother and her baby.
The hospital system is designed for efficiency, which may not be in the best interests of the mother and her breastfeeding baby. Dr Robyn’s research clearly demonstrates that common breastfeeding complications such as breastfeeding pain, breast engorgement and mastitis are closely associated with an interruption to or delay of the first breastfeed. In addition, the commonly taught forceful techniques should be avoided at all costs.
Dr Robyn also encourages women to know and exercise their rights to ensure that if intervention is recommended (such as induction of labour), it’s so important to understand why!
This series is a must-see for pregnant women, determined and passionate about breastfeeding.
